Detangling your hair is a fundamental step in every hair care routine, however, there is a right and wrong way to go about it. Here is a quick guide detailing the most effective tricks to get rid of those stubborn knots!
Condition and wet the hair
Wetting the hair and adding conditioner thoroughly is the first step in detangling. When the hair is wet and conditioned, it makes it a lot easier to move through the hair strands smoothly while combing any knots out. Apply any of our Real Hair Smoothie products to condition and gently comb the hair until it is knot-free.
Section the hair
It is important to section the hair when detangling, especially if it is an unruly mess! Trying to detangle the entire head at once is very stressful and tiring. It is best to part the hair in about 5 sections and work each section separately. Working the hair in sections will help ensure that every hair strand is detangled and will help separate the tangled parts from the detangled parts. The key is to be gentle!
Use a wide-tooth comb
Combs with bristle that are far apart are perfect for to avoid hair breakage or damage. Using a wide-tooth comb will help detangle the hair gently. Make sure to begin coming from the ends of the hair up and work your way up to the root to minimize pulling.
